Proven Leadership. A Lifetime of Service. Bold Advocacy

For more than two decades, Sharon P. Scott dedicated her life to serving the people of Newport News with integrity, accessibility, and a steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life for every resident. Elected to the Newport News City Council in 2002, she proudly represented citizens of the North District for more than 20 years, earning a reputation as a responsive, community-focused leader who believed every voice deserved to be heard.

During her tenure on City Council, Sharon worked tirelessly to strengthen neighborhoods, promote economic development, improve public safety, and advocate for responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Her leadership was defined by transparency, accountability, and a hands-on approach to solving problems while building meaningful relationships throughout the community.

After retiring from City Council in 2022, Sharon remained active in public service and community leadership. She served the region as Public Information Officer for the Hampton Roads Regional Jail, while expanding her work as a business owner, consultant, author, and now Real Estate Agent, with plans to  help families build brighter futures through homeownership and financial opportunity.

Personal Life

Beyond public service, Sharon treasures time with family and values relationships that have shaped her life. She is the proud mother of one son and the grandmother of three beautiful granddaughters, who inspire her commitment to building a stronger future for the next generation.

Sharon is a devoted member of global faith-based organization, The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith,  where her faith reinforces principles of compassion, service, integrity, and respect that have guided her throughout her personal and professional life.

When she is not serving the community, Sharon enjoys traveling, maintaining an active fitness lifestyle, experiencing exquisite restaurants, reading, dancing, and spending time with family and friends over a friendly game of cards. These interests help keep her connected to people from all walks of life and reflect her belief in living a balanced, healthy, and fulfilling life.
